- Face fabric and lining: both need to be suitable for treatment.
- Blackout curtains: construction varies. Plastic blackout linings are unsuitable, but “blackout” alone doesn’t tell us how a curtain is made.
- Absorbency: non-absorbent fabrics are unsuitable.
- Care: treated curtains must be dry-cleaned, not washed.

How the treatment estimate is calculated
In-house: £6/m², minimum £120. On site: under 150m² £4/m²; 150–under 300m² £3.60/m²; 300–under 500m² £3.20/m²; 500–under 750m² £2.80/m²; 750–1,050m² £2.40/m²; over 1,050m² £2/m². On-site minimum £350. Rates and minimums exclude VAT. The applicable rate applies to the total treatment area, including lining.

Both routes are available for new or existing curtains. The choice isn’t restricted by curtain size.
In-house treatment
Have your curtains treated at our Colchester premises. We’ll confirm suitability, the quotation and arrangements before you send anything.
Include transport costs when comparing this route with buying inherently fire-retardant curtains.
On-site treatment
We come to your location, with nationwide coverage. Curtains can be treated while they remain hanging.

Treatment & certification

Treatment is normally to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B. Tell us if a different classification has been specified, so we can confirm the applicable treatment.
Your Certificate of Fire Retardant Treatment is issued after completion and payment, recording the treatment completed.

Do you supply the curtains?
No. We treat curtains you buy or already own. Check the fabric and lining with us before purchasing.
Can you treat curtains that are already hanging?
Yes, suitable curtains can be treated on site while hanging. In-house treatment is also available for curtains you already own.
What should I send for a quotation?
Include fabric composition, lining details, full flat width and drop, the number of individual curtains, your location and preferred treatment route. A product link or label details help us check suitability. We’ll send a quote or ask for any missing information.
Do ordinary private domestic curtains need treatment?
This service focuses on public and commercial spaces. It does not mean ordinary private domestic curtains universally require fire-retardant treatment.
