Standards and certification

Confirm the fire standard before treatment

If a fire-risk assessor, fire officer or project specifier has requested a particular standard, send us their wording before booking. Large foliage walls and ceiling installations may require Class B. Surface treatment cannot provide this classification; only inherently fire-retardant plastic foliage can achieve it.

Common questions

Artificial plant treatment FAQs

View all FAQs →
Which fire standard applies to artificial plants?

BS 5852 is often requested, while BS 5867 is sometimes used for decorative displays. Only inherently fire-retardant plastic foliage can achieve BS EN 13501-1 Class B. Send us the requirement before booking.

Will the treatment change the appearance?

Results vary by material. Treatment can remain visible on shiny plastic foliage, so we may recommend a sample where appearance is important.

How long does artificial foliage take to dry?

Allow up to 24 hours. Temperature, ventilation, material and display density can affect drying time.

How long does the treatment last?

Retreatment is typically recommended every two years, or sooner if the display is cleaned, altered or damaged. Follow the period stated on your certificate.

What certificate is provided?

A Certificate of Fire Retardant Treatment is supplied after treatment and payment.
