We regularly treat fabrics, props, rugs, foliage, furniture covers, tents and other temporary installations. Different materials may need different treatments, so each group is clearly identified before work begins.

A material used on a floor may need different evidence when fixed to a wall or ceiling. We can discuss the intended use and any requirement supplied by the venue.
Fabric and drapes
Often BS 5867 Part 2 Type BFor suitable curtains, backdrops and hanging textiles where that treatment standard is accepted.
Tents and marquees
BS 7837Suitable absorbent fabric only. Coated, waterproofed or stain-resistant materials may not accept treatment.
Rugs and carpet
Flooring evidence may applyConfirm whether the material remains on the floor; moving it onto a wall changes the assessment.
Large surface areas
May require BS EN 13501-1Do not assume a treatment certificate replaces a required reaction-to-fire classification for the complete system.

No treatment in rain. Outdoor work needs a suitable forecast or covered backup space.
Treatment and drying are planned around the installation and opening dates.
Electrical equipment, finished surfaces and neighbouring areas must be protected or moved.

View all FAQs →How quickly can event materials be treated?
Turnaround depends on the materials, quantity, location, product availability and drying time. Send the event and installation dates as early as possible so we can plan treatment and approximately 24 hours of drying.
Can treatment be completed the day before opening?
Sometimes, but the programme must allow sufficient treatment and drying time. Suitable absorbent materials generally require approximately 24 hours at room temperature to dry fully.
Can tents and marquees be treated to BS 7837?
Yes. Absorbent tent and marquee fabrics can be treated to BS 7837. Waterproofed, water-resistant, stain-resistant, coated and non-absorbent fabrics cannot accept this treatment.
Can treatment be applied outdoors in the rain?
No. Treatment cannot be applied effectively during rain. Outdoor projects need a suitable forecast or a covered backup workspace with room-temperature drying conditions.
Can rugs and event floor coverings be treated?
Some loose, absorbent indoor rugs may be candidates for temporary-use treatment after assessment, with both faces normally requiring treatment. Polypropylene, outdoor or water-resistant, rubber-backed and installed carpets or rugs are not accepted. The treatment is non-durable and will clean out with water extraction. Does the requirement change if carpet is used on a wall?
Yes. Evidence for a floor covering does not automatically apply when that material is installed on a wall or ceiling. Confirm the intended position and exact requirement before treatment.
Can the venue remain operational during treatment?
Often, with planning. Work may be phased around the venue programme, with equipment and adjacent areas protected. Workspace, ventilation and venue activities must be discussed first.
