Fire Proofing Ltd specialises in cleaning and fire-retardant treatment for large theatre and stage curtains. The curtains remain on their track, and a BS 5867 Part 2 Type B treatment certificate is supplied after completion.
01 · Specialist theatre service
Experienced with large theatre and stage curtains
Theatre curtains are often extremely large, heavy and installed at different heights around lighting, scenery and stage equipment.
We clean and treat them while they remain on their track, avoiding the time, disruption and expense involved in removal, transport and rehanging.
- Main stage curtains
- Front-of-house curtains
- Borders and stage legs
- Black masking curtains
- Tabs and side curtains
- Backdrops and stage drapes
- Lined and unlined curtains
- Auditorium curtains
Professional access equipment is used to reach high-level sections and the complete curtain surface.
02 · Cleaning first
Stage curtains often need cleaning first
Dust collects throughout the folds, along the upper sections and around the bottom edges of stage curtains. Curtains can also become marked through contact with scenery, equipment, performers and the stage floor.
Dusty, marked or heavily soiled curtains should be cleaned before fire-retardant treatment.
We can clean and treat the curtains during one planned visit. After cleaning, the fire-retardant treatment is applied evenly across the fabric.
Curtains that are already clean can receive fire-retardant treatment without a separate cleaning service.
03 · Venue scheduling
Planned around the performance programme
The work can be arranged around rehearsals, performances, events, maintenance periods and venue closures.
We need clear access to the stage and curtains for the agreed service period. Scenery, equipment and other items should be moved away from the working area beforehand.
Venues with several performance spaces or multiple curtain installations can include them in the same enquiry so the work can be planned efficiently.
04 · Measurements
What information is needed for a quotation?
For each curtain, send:
- The finished curtain width
- The curtain drop
- The number of curtains
- Whether the curtains are lined
- Whether cleaning is required
- The approximate installation height
- The venue address and postcode
Measure the width along the bottom edge of the hanging curtain rather than across the curtain track.
Include borders, stage legs, masking curtains, tabs, backdrops and any other drapes that also need cleaning or treatment.
Approximate measurements are enough for an initial quotation. Photographs can be included to show the stage, curtain arrangement and high-level access.
The quotation will confirm the cleaning or treatment service, price, mileage and appointment details.
05 · The certificate
What certificate will the venue receive?
After fire-retardant treatment and payment, the venue receives a Certificate of Fire Retardant Treatment recording BS 5867 Part 2 Type B treatment.
The certificate identifies the venue, the curtains treated, the treatment date and the product used. It also contains care and maintenance information for the venue’s records.
