Curtain Cleaning and Fireproofing Across Three Cornwall Schools

We cleaned and fireproofed curtains at three Cornwall schools over three working days, sharing travel costs across the sites.

One coordinated three-school project

We priced each school separately and estimated one working day at each site.

Completing all three schools during the same trip made the project more efficient for the trust.

There was one mileage charge for the journey to Cornwall, divided between the three schools. Accommodation and subsistence costs were also shared, reducing the additional cost applied to each individual site.

Stage curtains and hall privacy curtains

The work included large stage curtains and privacy curtains fitted around school halls.

Some of the halls were also used as dining areas, which meant the curtains had collected dust, handling marks and considerable food staining over time.

The curtains remained hanging while they were professionally cleaned and fire-retardant treated.

A noticeable cleaning result

Curtains often become gradually soiled, so the change is not always obvious until they have been professionally cleaned.

A comment we regularly hear is: “I didn’t realise how dirty the curtains were.”

At one of the Cornwall schools, someone initially thought that new curtains had been installed because the cleaning had made such a visible difference.

Reaching the high-level stage curtains

As is common with school stages, sections of the curtains were installed at considerable height.

Professional extension poles were used to clean and treat the high-level areas while the curtains remained on their tracks. This avoided the disruption, handling and cost involved in taking large stage curtains down and reinstalling them.

One day at each school

The project was planned around one working day at each school.

Completing the schools consecutively allowed the cleaning equipment, treatment products and access equipment to remain with the team throughout the trip.

This provided the trust with a straightforward programme covering all three locations.

Fire-retardant treatment and certification

After cleaning, the curtains were professionally fire-retardant treated to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B.

Following completion and payment, certification was supplied for the treated curtains at each school. The documentation recorded:

  • The school and treatment location
  • The curtains cleaned and treated
  • BS 5867 Part 2 Type B
  • The fire-retardant product used
  • The treatment date
  • Maintenance and retreatment information

Efficient multi-site school curtain care

If you manage several schools, include them in the same enquiry so we can plan the visits and travel together.
