Fire Proofing Ltd specialises in cleaning and fire-retardant treatment for care-home and residential-home curtains. The curtains remain hanging, disruption is kept low, and a BS 5867 Part 2 Type B treatment certificate is supplied after completion.
01 · Specialist care-home service
Specialist treatment for care-home curtains
We provide on-site curtain cleaning and fire-retardant treatment for care homes, nursing homes and residential settings.
The service covers curtains and drapes in:
- Resident bedrooms
- Communal lounges
- Dining rooms
- Reception areas
- Activity rooms
- Corridors and shared spaces
- Meeting and staff rooms
- Day centres
- Large communal halls
- Window and privacy curtains
Curtains are cleaned and treated while they remain hanging, avoiding unnecessary removal, transport and rehanging.
02 · Cleaning first
Do care-home curtains need cleaning first?
Care-home curtains may be laundered regularly and can receive fire-retardant treatment directly when they are already clean.
Curtains that are marked, dusty or heavily soiled should be cleaned first. We can clean and treat them during one planned visit.
After cleaning, the fire-retardant treatment is applied evenly across the fabric.
Regular vacuuming does not remove the treatment. Curtains require retreatment after five years or five dry-cleaning cycles, whichever comes first.
Water washing and water-extraction cleaning remove the treatment, so curtains must be treated again afterwards.
03 · Care-home scheduling
Planned around residents and daily routines
We plan the work with the care team and move through the agreed bedrooms and communal areas in an organised sequence.
Treatment can be arranged around meal times, activities, visiting hours and other daily routines. Staff should confirm which rooms are available and provide clear access to the curtains during the agreed service period.
Homes with several buildings, floors or locations can include them in the same enquiry so the work can be planned efficiently.
04 · Measurements
What information is needed for a quotation?
For each curtain, send:
- The finished curtain width
- The curtain drop
- The number of curtains
- Whether the curtains are lined
- Whether cleaning is required
- The approximate installation height
- The care-home address and postcode
Measure the width along the bottom edge of the hanging curtain rather than across the curtain track.
Approximate measurements are enough for an initial quotation. If several curtains have the same measurements, group them together and provide the total quantity.
Photographs can be included when they help show the curtain arrangement or access.
The quotation will confirm the cleaning or treatment service, price, mileage and appointment details.
05 · The certificate
What certificate will the care home receive?
After fire-retardant treatment and payment, the care home receives a Certificate of Fire Retardant Treatment recording BS 5867 Part 2 Type B treatment.
The certificate identifies the care home, the curtains treated, the treatment date and the product used. It also contains care and maintenance information for the home’s fire-safety and premises records.
06 · Other fabrics
What about other fabric items?
Fire-retardant treatment can also be provided for fabric room dividers, decorative drapes and removable upholstery covers.
Tell us what the item is and provide its measurements or quantity. We will include the treatment and certification details in the quotation.
