Understanding BS 5867 Part 2 Type B Testing: In-House Fireproofing Testing Unveiled

Updated: Jan 7

Introduction:

Fire safety is paramount, and in the realm of curtain fabrics, BS 5867 Part 2 Type B testing holds the torch. Journey with us as we unveil the layers of our meticulous in-house testing and showcase the transformation of fabrics before and after treatment.

The Importance of BS 5867 Part 2 Type B Testing:

Before diving into our experiments, it's crucial to understand the benchmark. BS 5867 Part 2 Type B testing is a leading UK standard, determining whether curtain fabrics can withstand direct flame exposure for 15 seconds without persistent burning or releasing flaming droplets.

In-House Testing on Diverse Fabric Types:

1. 100% Cotton (Green Heringul Pattern):

Before Treatment: The untreated fabric continues to burn even after the flame source is removed.

After Treatment: Post-treatment, the fabric stops burning immediately once the flame source is taken away, showcasing its newfound fire-resistance.

2. 100% Polyester (Green Velvet):

Before Treatment: Without treatment, this fabric often releases flaming droplets when exposed to flame for 15 seconds.

After Treatment: The treated velvet ceases to burn or drop flaming particles once the flame is removed.

3. 100% Polyester (Moleskin/Faux Suede):

Before Treatment: The untreated faux suede continues its burn even after flame removal.

After Treatment: After undergoing our fireproofing treatment, it extinguishes instantly upon flame removal.

Safety Assurance: The BS 5867 Part 2 Type B Certification:

Every curtain treated with our BS 5867 fire retardant spraying services receives a BS 5867 Part 2 Type B certificate. This certification confirms the fire-resistant quality of the treated fabric, reflecting the standards we adhere to. Our methods and products are aligned with UKAS-approved and European counterpart guidelines, ensuring consistent, quality treatment across all fabric types.
